Alexandra is a director and lighting designer. She holds an MA in drama from the University of Toronto and a Graduate Diploma in Directing from the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne, where she directed Daniel MacIvor’s Never Swim Alone in 2005. Other directing work has included Violet the Pilot (Solar Stage), the staged reading of Brief (draft89), Lying on the Escarpment (New Ideas), Marion Bridge (Graduate Centre, U of T), A Contemporary Murder (Tuesday Night Café), The Real Inspector Hound, Sorry, Wrong Number and Impromptu (Shoestring Theatre), and The Amazing Fox Sisters (Phat Phoenix) which was called “a theatrical triumph” by Vue Weekley. Her work has been praised for its ‘sharp theatricality’ (Jon Kaplan) and its ‘wise…directorial decisions’ (CBC Manitoba). As a designer she works frequently at Hart House Theatre and lit the U of T Festival of Dance, Lysistrata and John Neville’s Strindberg Project this past season, and Othello in 2004. Other recent projects have included The Shape of Things (Nervemeter), [r]evolution (Only Human Dance Collective), I am Not a Dinner Mint (Trey Anthony / Redfoot Productions), Aviary (Image Theatre, Melbourne), Twelfth Night (Classical Theatre Project), and A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Driftwood). |
